Message from the Director

In the nearly two years since our launch, JCESR has implemented an innovative new paradigm for pursuing transformational change in transportation and the electricity grid driven by next generation high performance, low cost energy storage.  The new paradigm unites discovery science, battery design, research prototyping and manufacturing collaboration in one highly interactive unit, and introduces innovative new tools for mapping the vast, rich and largely unexplored beyond lithium-ion space. We have completed foundational research in all four of our constituent areas.

I am pleased to share a review article that captures the vision, mission, new paradigm and accomplishments of JCESR in a single place.  The article is in press for Physics of Sustainable Energy III: Using Energy Efficiently and Producing It Renewably, edited by R. H. Knapp et al, AIP Conference Proceedings (Number ***), Melville, New York, 2014. Please feel free to share it with graduate students, colleagues and others who would like an introduction to JCESR and its accomplishments.
