UIC Electrochemistry Collaborative

Electrochemistry is critical to a host of fundamental phenomena and energy applications yet has advanced far more slowly over the last two decades than many companion fields such as nanoscience, semiconductors, photon science and scanning probe microscopy.

The UIC Electrochemistry Collaborative will focus on the next generation challenges in electrochemistry and bring to bear the latest advances in synthesis, nanoscience, dynamic and ultrafast measurements, in situ techniques and theory and simulation to further advances in electrochemistry.

The UIC Electrochemistry Collaborative is a group of UIC faculty whose interest in electrochemistry spans various disciplines.

Addressing the Water-Energy Nexus with Electrochemistry

Soaring water use, due to increased urbanization, climate change, population growth, expansion of agriculture, and a dramatic increase in oil and gas production, is compounded by failing and outdated municipal drinking water and wastewater treatment infrastructure in many cities and high levels of contamination by the growing volume of industrial wastewater. Water is increasingly coming to the forefront as a global challenge for both water quality and quantity. Electrochemical-based water treatment technologies have emerged as potentially transformative solutions to meeting these challenges.
